Applications open for Kent County rental assistance program

Kent County Community Action said it hopes to help around 100 households, estimating about $3,000 - $7,000 per financial assistance.

Kent County Community Action has launched a rental assistance program for individuals who are behind on rent payments. Applicants must live in Kent County but outside the cities of Grand Rapids and Wyoming.

Gustavo Perez is the group’s director. He told WGVU available funding could help around 100 households, estimating about $3,000 - $7,000 per assistance.

“We’re hoping it can give them some stability while they try to figure out their situation and what they’re going through and trying to buy them some time and hopefully keep some people housed. There’s obviously a greater need right now, we’re just trying to make a difference in any way we can.”

Funds were made possible through a federal community development block grant, which will expire in June of 2023.

KCAA says funding and time is limited, so renters are encouraged to apply quickly. Applications can only be accepted by appointment. Appointments can be scheduled by calling (616) 632-7950.
